Promote Affordable Housing

We don’t need another task force or blue ribbon commission to tell us that as a city and a region we’re in the midst of a growth spurt. Growth is good, but it also means increased demand on our limited real estate, and we run the very real risk of pricing many of our citizens out of the housing market. I believe in the American dream, and
that it is incumbent upon city leaders to pursue policies which maximize opportunities for home ownership and an affordable standard of living. To date spending millions of
municipal and federal dollars on affordable housing projects has yielded little to this end. Instead, we need to roll back zoning regulations and disentangle government from land use decisions. Individuals acting through the mechanism of the free market will allocate real estate more efficiently than government planners ever could, and with
developers facing fewer and less costly delays in the planning process we will extend the promise of home ownership to more of our citizens.
