I pledge to be a strong defender of property rights, and against the abuse of government’s eminent domain power.
I believe that owners, not central planners in downtown Raleigh, should decide how best to use their property. We need to roll back zoning and land use regulations which misallocate resources, impinge on property rights, and retard the promise of home ownership for many of our citizens. We should rely instead on land use covenants and deed restrictions, and the self-regulating aspects of the free market to protect neighborhoods. By creating a more free and flexible land use market developers will be able to build more walkable mixed use neighborhoods, thereby reducing our reliance on automobiles and easing our traffic and environmental woes.
